Opening of the Centennial Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima's Appearance

We encourage all families, young adults, leaders of prayer groups and their members, church leaders, our priests, and clergy to attend this event.

The International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima, the statue that travels around the world will be here on our Islands from January 29 to February 4, 2017. The event below marks the opening of the centennial celebration of Our Lady of Fatima's first apparition to the three children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917. The Roman Catholic Church in Hawaii invites all to be a part of this celebration. Here in Hawaii, this event -- Solidarity in Prayer -- will be held at Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace at 1184 Bishop Street on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 7 - 8 p.m.

Our very own bishop, Bishop Larry Silva, will have the statue of Our Lady of Fatima that was created by the same artist of the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima available at the cathedral. Here is excerpt for the October 13th celebration:

“The statue of Our Lady of Fatima we venerate at this evening’s service was made for Sister Mary Dolorine Pires, SS.CC. by Jose Ferreira Thedim, carved the wooden statue of Our Lady of Fatima that now is venerated in the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Portugal.  Our statue is an exact replica of the one in the Shrine in Fatima and is one of only a handful that was made by the same sculptor.  Sister Mary Dolorine’s father pleaded with the artist to make a special copy of the statue for his daughter, and Sister gifted the statue to Bishop Larry Silva with the intention that it be the legacy of the Diocese of Honolulu.”

Don't miss this significant event in our diocese, Diocese of Honolulu.

Prayer to be Said at the Priest's Communion

Bishop Larry Silva

Prayer to be Said at the Priest's Communion

O Lord may Thou find shelter
and rest gently
within the heart of Thy priest...

Make him, O Lord,
a priest according to Thy Heart:
meek, humble, zealous,
so that all he does will be
for Thine honor and glory.
Mold him into a man of prayer
and labor,
insensible to earthly things
and sensible only to Thy love,
and to the graces of the Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Thank you, Esther, for sending me this prayer.

Prayer for Our Priests

From Lleander of the Serra Club in Honolulu:

You are asked to pray the following prayer for your parish priest and all priests of our diocese and throughout the world as they constantly are under attacks and criticisms.

Am sure you heard the saying - "Strike the shepherd and scatter the sheep." Therefore, protect our shepherds to protect our sheep. You know who the enemy is. He works amongst us, using us against each other and our priests.

Happy Feast day to each of our wonderful priests. Thank you for your ministry to us. We pray for all those who are sick, retired, lonesome, inactive or fallen as well as those who feel unappreciated.

Divine Savior, Jesus Christ, who have entrusted your work of redemption to the priests, who take your place on earth, I offer you, through the hands of your most holy Mother, for the sanctification of your priests and future priests this whole day, all my prayers, works, joys, sacrifices and sufferings. Give us saintly priests. Grant to them apostolic hearts, filled with love for you and all the souls belonging to you, so that, being themselves sanctified in you, they may sanctify us who are entrusted to their care and bring us safely into Heaven.

Loving Jesus, bless all their priestly work and sacrifice. Bless all their prayers and words at the altar and in the confessional, in the pulpit, in the school, and at the sickbed. Call many young men to the priesthood and the monastic life. Protect and sanctify all who will become your priests. And grant to the souls of the priests who have departed this life, eternal rest.

And do you, Mary, Mother of all priests, take them under your special protection and lead them ever to the highest priestly sanctity. Amen

Prayer for our Priests this Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all our priests!

A Prayer for Our Priests

You came from among us
to be, for us, one who serves.
We thank you for ministering Christ to us
and helping us minister Christ to each other.
We are grateful for the many gifts you bring to our community:
for drawing us together in worship,
for visiting us in our homes,
for comforting us in sickness,
for showing us compassion,
for blessing our marriage,
for baptizing our children,
for confirming us in our calling,
for supporting us in bereavement,
for helping us to grow in faith,
for encouraging us to take the initiative,
for helping the whole community realize God's presence among us.
For our part, we pray that we may always be attentive to your needs
and never take you for granted.
You, like us, need friendship and love,
welcome and a sense of belonging,
kind words and acts of thoughtfulness.
We pray, also, for the priests who have wounded priesthood.
May we be willing to forgive
and may they be open to healing.
Let us support one another during times of crisis.
God our Father, we ask you to bless our priests
and confirm them in their calling.
Give them the gifts they need
to respond with generosity and a joyful heart.
We offer this prayer for our priest,
Who is our brother and friend,

Amen.

Prayer for Priests

Divine Savior Jesus Christ, who has entrusted the whole work of your redemption, the welfare, and salvation of the world to priests as your representatives, through the hands of your most holy Mother and for the sanctification of your priests and candidates for the priesthood, I offer you this present day wholly and entirely, with all its prayers, works, joys, sacrifices, and sorrows,.  Give us truly holy priests who, inflamed with the fire of your divine love, seek nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls.

And you, Mary, good Mother of priests, protect all our priests int eh dangers of their holy vocation and with the loving hand of a Mother, also lead back to the Good Shepherd those poor priests who have become unfaithful to their exalted vocation and have gone astray.  Amen.

Today's Saint was a Priest

If you have seen this picture but didn't know whose, now you do. He's St. Peter Julian Eymard who joined the Marists in 1839, and in 1856, founded the Blessed Sacrament.

"In addition to those changes, Peter Julian coped with poverty, his father's initial opposition to Peter's vocation, serious illness, a Jansenistic striving for inner perfection and the difficulties of getting diocesan and later papal approval for his new religious community.

His years as a Marist, including service as a provincial leader, saw the deepening of his eucharistic devotion, especially through his preaching of Forty Hours in many parishes. Inspired at first by the idea of reparation for indifference to the Eucharist, Peter Julian was eventually attracted to a more positive spirituality of Christ-centered love. Members of the men's community, which Peter founded, alternated between an active apostolic life and contemplating Jesus in the Eucharist. He and Marguerite Guillot founded the women's Congregation of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament.

Peter Julian Eymard was beatified in 1925 and canonized in 1962, one day after Vatican II's first session ended."

More here.

We pray for all priests that they, too, may always have the perseverance to pursue what it is they need to accomplish in their church or parish, or missionary work. May poverty not bring them down, but fill them with strength as they live a life more dependent on God. We pray in the name of our Eucharistic Lord and Savior. Amen.

We pray for our priests

We pause today to remember our soldiers
who fought in battles.
Let us also remember the priests who died
as they ministered to the soldiers.
May their lives inspire us to continue the fight
to retain the freedom which they died for.
May they all attain eternal life
and enjoy the company of our Lord,
the angels, and the saints.

Let us pray for our living priests that their lives
may always be filled with strength and courage...

Dear Lord,
we pray that the Blessed Mother
wrap her mantle around your priests
and through her intercession
strengthen them for their ministry.
We pray that Mary will guide your priests
to follow her own words,
“Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5).
May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph,
Mary’s most chaste spouse.
May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart
inspire them to embrace
all who suffer at the foot of the cross.
May your priests be holy,
filled with the fire of your love
seeking nothing but your greater glory
and the salvation of souls.
Amen.
