PRIESTS: COMMITMENT TO GOD, SERVICE, EXEMPLARY LIFE

"...The Pope then went on to identify three preconditions for a priest's life to ensure its conformity to Christ: "the aspiration to collaborate with Jesus in spreading the Kingdom of God, the gratuitousness of pastoral commitment, and an attitude of service"..." Read the entire article here

Pope Benedict and Youth in Madrid, Spain

With smiles on his face, Pope Benedict XVI is seen arriving in Madrid, Spain. We pray for him, Spain, all delegates, and all youth participating in the event.

May the youth's experience in Madrid bring them a lasting hope that will keep them spiritually inflamed with God's presence, and with hearts renewed on their return to their homelands, they spread around them -- whether in church or in the society -- the Life of Christ himself. May their passion bear fruits in their future vocations; most of all, that many vocations to the church grow from that experience.

My thanks to Merelyn for sharing with us their pictures.

In his weekly editorial, the director of the Holy See Press Office recalled that June 29 is the 60th anniversary of Pope Benedict’s priestly ordination and drew attention to the Congregation for the Clergy’s request to bishops’ conferences “to promote celebrations of thanksgiving as well as prayers, centered especially on Eucharistic adoration, for priestly vocations.”

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 31, 2011 (Zenit).- Benedict XVI is dedicating the month of June to pray that priests be united to the heart of Christ.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for this month. His general intention is: "That priests, united to the Heart of Christ, may always be true witnesses of the caring and merciful love of God."

The Pontiff's apostolic intention for June is: "That the Holy Spirit may bring forth from our communities many missionaries who are ready to be fully consecrated to spreading the Kingdom of God."

Pray for Tornado Victims

Pope Sends Prayers and Support to Tornado Victims

WASHINGTON (May 2, 2011)—Pope Benedict XVI was saddened to learn of the death, devastation and suffering caused by the April 25-28 tornadoes across the Southern United States and sends his prayers and support to victims and those engaged in relief and rebuilding efforts, according to a message from the Vatican.

In a May 2 communiqué to Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi of Mobile, Alabama, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, wrote:

“His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI was saddened to learn of the tragic consequences of the devastating tornado which struck Alabama and neighboring states, and he asks you to express his deep solidarity and pastoral concern to those affected by this natural catastrophe. He joins all of you in offering fervent prayers that Almighty God will grant eternal peace to those who have died and consolation and strength to the homeless, injured and suffering. Upon the local civil and religious leaders, and upon all engaged in the work of relief and rebuilding, he invokes the divine gifts of wisdom, strength and generous perseverance.”

Novena for the Pope, Day 9 -Happy Birthday Pope Benedict XVI

Happy Birthday Pope Benedict! Today is the big day!

I want to say a big THANK YOU on behalf of Pope Benedict XVI! I'm sure that our prayers together are benefiting the Pope, the Church and ourselves!

Novena Prayers

Jesus, we pray for our beloved Pope and for his intentions. We pray for his personal intentions and for his April prayer intentions for the entire Church. In solidarity with the Universal Church, we ask that you grant this intention: "That the Church may offer new generations, through the believable proclamation of the Gospel, ever-new reasons of life and hope."

Heavenly Father, you commanded that we make disciples of all nations. We pray for this missionary intention given to us by the Pope: "That missionaries, with the proclamation of the Gospel and their witness of life, may bring Christ to all those who do not yet know Him."

Heavenly Father, we pray for Pope Benedict XVI as this year's World Youth Day approaches. We pray for a New Evangelization of the youth through this year's World Youth Day. Please bless all who attend and all who follow the events from afar. Give your servant Benedict XVI the words to bring all those in attendance closer to Christ.

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd, Benedict XVI, a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the Apostle Peter and the Vicar of Christ, build your Church into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for all the world.

Let us pray for Benedict, the pope.
May the Lord preserve him,
give him a long life,
make him blessed upon the earth,
and not hand him over
to the power of his enemies.
May your hand be upon your holy servant.
And upon your son, whom you have anointed.
Our Father …
Hail Mary …
Glory Be …
Amen.

Thank you so much for all you have done for this novena! By my count, we ended up with much fewer than 84,000 novenas. However, we really did get thousands of faithful people praying for the Pope!

The next novena is the Divine Mercy Novena starting on Good Friday. I'll let you know more about that soon!

God Bless You,

P.S. I hope you're looking forward to the Divine Mercy Novena as a great way to celebrate the resurrection! It starts on April 22nd!

Birthday Novena for the Pope, Day 2

Let's pray today for the spiritual protection of the Pope. As you may know, those who are in positions of leadership of the Church are often under the most spiritual attack. The Pope is, I am sure, the biggest target of the devil. So, let's pray together for his protection by the Blood of Christ.

Novena Prayers

Heavenly father, Your Providence guides the Church and the successor to St. Peter, Pope Benedict XVI. May he be protected at all times from spiritual attacks so that he may lead Your Church to greater holiness and unity through your Holy Spirit.
