Feast of the Annunciation - Mary and the Priesthood

The Annunciation by Carlo Crivelli

Mary and the Priesthood  The following is an excerpt.

By her fiat in answer to the message of the Angel Gabriel, Mary consented to become the Mother of the Eternal High Priest, Jesus Christ. At that very moment of the Incarnation, Jesus also began His priestly oblation to the Father. The letter to the Hebrews places the following words of the Psalms in Jesus’ mouth at the Incarnation: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a Body You prepared for Me… Then I said, ‘Behold, I come to do Your will, O God’” (Heb 10:5-7). Thus Mother and Son, Mary and the High Priest, were united from the very beginning in the priestly, sacrificial self-offering to the will of the Father. Our Lady pronounced her fiat to all the suffering involved with being Mother of the Redeemer saying, “Be it done unto me according to your word”; while Jesus consented to His priestly mission from the Father saying, “Behold I come to do Your will”. John Paul II sees in this “perfect correspondence” between Mother and Son “that a close relationship has been established between Mary’s motherhood and Christ’s priesthood” (Gen. Audience, June 30, 1993). Mary stands behind her Son and dedicates herself totally to His priestly mission as Mediator and Redeemer of all men. Her dedication, however, did not end with Jesus’ death on the cross. This bond continues and is extended throughout the centuries between Mary and every priest who participates in the ministerial priesthood of Christ. As Mother of Christ, Mary is in a special way the Mother of each and every priest. She takes each priest into her care, just as she cared for Jesus.

Detail of the Assumption of Mary by Goya

Prayer to Our Lady of the Assumption
O Mary,
God's Son became your Son
and you in turn became both our Mother and our Queen.
From your heavenly throne,
intercede for your countless subjects,
especially your priests,
who are daily confronted with life's trials.
Help us to find comfort in our recourse to you
and to come closer to your Divine Son.
May faith in the glorious Savior be spread
and trust in you, His compassionate Mother.

Amen.

Prayer to Mary for Priests today, Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Prayer to the Virgin Mary for Priests
By Pope John Paul II

O Mary,
Mother of Jesus Christ and Mother of priests,
accept this title which we bestow on you
to celebrate your motherhood
and to contemplate with you the priesthood
of, your Son and of your sons,
O holy Mother of God.

O Mother of Christ,
to the Messiah-priest you gave a body of flesh
through the anointing of the Holy Spirit
for the salvation of the poor and the contrite of heart;
guard priests in your heart and in the Church,
O Mother of the Savior.

O Mother of Faith,
you accompanied to the Temple the Son of Man,
the fulfillment of the promises given to the fathers;
give to the Father for his glory
the priests of your Son,
O Ark of the Covenant.

O Mother of the Church,
in the midst of the disciples in the upper room
you prayed to the Spirit
for the new people and their shepherds;
obtain for the Order of Presbyters
a full measure of gifts,
O Queen of the Apostles.

O Mother of Jesus Christ,
you were with him at the beginning
of his life and mission,
you sought the Master among the crowd,
you stood beside him when he was lifted up from the earth
consumed as the one eternal sacrifice,
and you had John, your son, near at hand;
accept from the beginning those who have been called,
protect their growth,
in their life ministry accompany your sons,
O Mother of Priests.
Amen.

Honoring Our Beautiful Mother - More Photos of the Public Rosary

Venny Villapando is part of a husband and wife team that filmed two documentaries on Saint Damien during the time of Father Damien's canonization. He was also the photographer at the public rosary held in Honolulu on October 13th. He graciously and generously shared the photos and videos he took that day. I had the pleasure of going through all of them today. It would be hard to share all of them in this one blog post. But I will share all the ones that I think you would like.

Praying the Memorare Daily for Vocations During the Month of May

In a pastoral letter on Mary's Humilty, Cardinal Carberry recommended that we pray the Memorare daily during the month of May, for more vocations.

Month of May: Humility of Mary and Praying the Memorare for Vocations.

I would ask that all the spiritual moms join in praying this prayer for vocations, our seminarians and our priests.

"Bring Flowers of the Fairest" and May Crowning Invitation

Mahalo to Lisa Graas for sharing this rare video.

BTW, there will be a May Crowning this Saturday (the day before Mother's day) at Sacred Heart Church. It begins at 10:00am. There will be a procession, the faithful will honor our lady with flowers, we will crown our lady and then we will pray the Rosary. This is one of the beautiful songs that is sung.

Please feel free to bring flowers or leis for our dear blessed Mother.

Remember, our Lady is the dear Mother to all our priests!

" I am the Mother of God of Priests"

From the Diary of St Faustina: Divine Mercy in my Soul:

A vision of the Mother of God. In the midst of a great brilliance, I saw the Mother of God clothed in a white gown, girt about with a golden cincture; and there were tiny stars, also of gold, over the whole garment, and chevron-shaped sleeves lined with gold. Her cloak was sky-blue, lightly thrown over the shoulders. A transparent veil was delicately drawn over her head, while her flowing hair was set off beautifully by a golden crown which terminated in little crosses. On Her left arm, She held the Child Jesus. ..She ..said, I am the Mother of God of Priests. At that, She lowered Jesus from Her arm to the ground, raised Her right hand heavenward and said: O God, bless Poland, bless priests. Then she addressed me once again: Tell the priests what you have seen. I resolved that at the first opportunity...I would tell; but I myself can make nothing of this vision. (1585)

I Am the Mother of God of Priests
Prayer from St. Faustina’s Diary
(St. Faustina’s Diary #1585)
I Am the Mother of God of Priests
Let us pray:
O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church:
Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of Priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord.
Lord, give us holy Priests; You yourself maintain them in holiness.
O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil's traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of Priests.
May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of Priests, for You can do all things. Amen.
(St. Faustina’s Diary #1052)

A big mahalo to Jackie for sharing this on her blog.
